Word-Of-the-Week #885: Explain

July 22, 2021 by · Comments Off on Word-Of-the-Week #885: Explain

Explain to offer reasons for the actions, beliefs, or remarks of (oneself).

Are you clear about what your core value and beliefs are? Do you feel you have to justify yourself? Or do you have a strong need to be accepted and “fit in?”

Once again, Steve Straus, author of STEVE’S 3-MINUTE COACHING, sent a very thought provoking piece.

Principle: Explain

(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)

“Life is too short to have to explain yourself.

Explaining, justifying, working to be understood, trying to be being accepted, these and other activities are a waste of your time. Thinking that you need to do them is the result of conditioning which has programmed you to play the game that way.

Instead, consider a different approach.

Who are you, really? What are your core values and beliefs? Are you clear enough to let them be shown? Or do you need to hide them so you can ‘fit in’?

What is your life, your journey about? Do you know what you want to have happen? Where you’re heading? And why?

Do you live in integrity (the Coaching definition)? It’s when what you think and feel and say and do are the same. All parts of you are in alignment.

The person – and they exist in the world in legion numbers – who has paid attention to the above points, and handled them, radiates a clear energy and message. They are who and what they are.

They don’t have to explain themselves.

Coaching Point: Been feeling the need to explain yourself lately?

Word-Of-the-Week #871: Enchantment

April 15, 2021 by · Comments Off on Word-Of-the-Week #871: Enchantment

Enchantment a feeling of delight; utter captivation; fascination.

When was the last time you experienced enchantment? Have you found any inspirations in this new year?

Once again, Steve Straus, author of STEVE’S 3-MINUTE COACHING, sent a very thought provoking piece.

Quote: Enchantment

(Quotes are capsules of information, reinforcement or enlightenment.)

“Whoever remains unmoved,
whoever cannot contemplate or know
the deep shudder of the soul to enchantment,
might as well be dead,
for he has already closed his eyes
upon life.”

                                                                        – Albert Einstein

Coaching Point: Really? The logical, linear, brilliant thinker, Einstein, talking about Soul, about Enchantment?

Those who are stuck in their heads can only contemplate thoughts. Thoughts are good, but limited. So be a good thinker; exercise your ability to figure things out; find bedrock facts and build from them. But to stay there confines you to the finite, for local mind is finite. It is, ultimately, a box, a prison of your reality. Fortunately, there is more to life than thinking.

When was the last time you experienced enchantment? Felt the “shudder of the soul” as he put it? That experience does not come from within your mind, the repository of your thoughts.

It comes from the rest of what you are – the non-linear moments, the intuitive, the creative, the inspired. If you are open to them and create opportunities for them, they will show up.

Einstein did. He said most of his seemingly linear, logical findings were the result, not of more chalkboard calculating, but of inspiration. Pure and simple ah-ha’s. And he said he spent lots of time in the field of enchantment to foster their emergence.

What are you doing to experience “the deep shudder of the soul to enchantment”?

Word-Of-the-Week #848: Rules

November 5, 2020 by · Comments Off on Word-Of-the-Week #848: Rules

Rules prescribed guides for conduct or action.

How good are you at following the rules? Are there any you wish you could break?

Once again, Steve Strauss, author of STEVE’S 3-MINUTE COACHING, sent a very thought provoking piece.

Great Question: Rules?

(Great questions lead to great answers; weak questions, weak ones.)

“What rules am I following that I wish I could break?

Coaching Point: The answers to this Great Question are evoked through three inquiries.

To begin, what are the rules you’re following and who established them? Did you learn them yourself or merely inherit them? If they’ve been in place for a while some are still valid and useful, some may no longer be. For you. For others, fine, but not for you. So the first step is to become aware of and clear about the rules which run you.

To begin, what are the rules you’re following and who established them? Did you learn them yourself or merely inherit them? If they’ve been in place for a while some are still valid and useful, some may no longer be. For you. For others, fine, but not for you. So the first step is to become aware of and clear about the rules which run you.

The second inquiry is to get clarity about why you wish you could break the rules. Outdated? Never yours to begin with? Good and useful at one point in your life, but now barriers to something better? If there is a part of you which wants to break out, trust the tug.

Finally, why have you not already broken free? Do you need permission? Does the change seem scary? Will there be consequences (real or imagined)?

Rules are great. Knowing and following rules can simplify life and make your journey easier by not having to stop and contemplate the consequences of each little action. The rules are the rails your engine is chugging along.

It’s the unexamined rules which may be holding you back.

What rules are you following that you wish you could break?

Word-Of-the-Week #835: Progress

August 6, 2020 by · Comments Off on Word-Of-the-Week #835: Progress

Progress – the process of working toward completion.

Do you have projects that you are currently working on? Have you ever felt stuck during the process of working toward the completion of it?

Once again, Steve Strauss, author of STEVE’S 3-MINUTE COACHING, sent a very thought provoking piece that is a great follow up to the previously sent WOW’s!

Principle: Making Progress

(Principles are basic truths that, when applied, cause success to come to you easier and quicker.)

Stuck while improving something recently I bumped into an old bit of wisdom which helped me get moving. Paraphrasing – when you have a problem you do not understand, do any part of it you do understand, then look at the problem again.

Brilliant. And simple. Why does it work? Because once you have solved the part you do understand you will be in a different place; you will see the remaining problem in a different context. That new context can reveal additional approaches, resources, and solutions.

Yes, you still may not be able to solve the original problem. If so, repeat the process, handling another part you do understand.

Why was I stuck originally? Because I wanted to solve the original issue with a grand, sweeping design. Ta-Da! Unable (initially) to do so, I froze. (The ego is a terrible servant and a powerful master.)

There are other reasons for getting stuck, both mental and emotional:
Fear that what you do won’t work.
A need to look good in the process.
You may run out of limited resources.
Self-doubt.
And on and on.

The key to making progress is to make progress. However small it may seem.

Coaching Point: Do you ever get stuck?

Word-Of-the-Week #797: Attraction

November 14, 2019 by · Comments Off on Word-Of-the-Week #797: Attraction

Attractionthe magnetic power of the Universe that draws similar energies together.

How lucky are you? How much of it are you creating? Are you fully engaged and aware with what is going on around you?

Once again, Steve Strauss, author of STEVE’S 3-MINUTE COACHING, sent a very thought-provoking piece!

Distinction: Attract vs. Make Happen

(Distinctions are subtleties of language that, when gotten, cause a shift in a belief, behavior, value or attitude.)

“There is plenty of satisfaction to be received from making things happen. You can get your emotional needs met, accomplish meaningful outcomes, prove your self-worth, and stand out from the pack by bowing your back and taking up the slack! Woo-Hoo! I made it happen! I’m a winner!

On the other hand, we also can be people who have things simply show up, seemingly by magic. You know the people I’m referencing. They’re ‘lucky,’ ‘in the right place at the right time,’ ‘the chosen ones,’ and such. We look at them with either awe or disdain.

Beyond merely lucky what they are is – in the flow of their life. They resonate with the flow. In harmony. And most importantly they have removed the obstacles to experiencing that flow.

The other folks who are busy making things happen are doing so by efforting over their own hurdles.

Keep in mind that people who attract may also be very busy dawn-till-dark workers. They are engaged. Attraction is not passive. And people who attract what they want also use what they attract. That’s why they attract it. It fits into and supports the flow of their journey.

Coaching Point: What are you attracting?”
